Nuit devient jour / contemporary dance, magie nouvelle, light art (2023)
For the creation of Nuit devient jour, choreographer Diana León draws inspiration from the works, lives, and investigations of Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington—two women artists who were part of the surrealist movement and delved into themes such as occultism, alchemy, psychology, and the bridge between spirituality and science. Exiled in Mexico since World War II, they developed a close friendship and collaborated on their research.
This project seeks to continue their legacy and expand upon their inquiries, building a unique universe from the perspective of the performing arts and in conversation with the contemporary context. The piece invites the audience to experience a blend of intrigue and wonder through visual, auditory, and emotional stimulation.
